Who Says Art Doesn’t Pay? Here Are The Top 10 Selling Artworks Of 2016 In Nigeria

2016 was bad for many Nigerians but not exactly for the guys in this list. For these guys, or their estates and beneficiaries, 2016 was a very good year indeed. In a list published online, ArtHouse Contemporary, an art auction house based in Lagos, Nigeria, gave us a rare peek into top prices paid for specific artworks sold at their auctions in 2016.

Nigerian painter and sculptor Ben Enwonwu leads the pack with 5 of his artworks on the top 10 list totaling a little over N106 Million. Yea, you read that right. One of his paintings ‘Obitun Dancers’ actually tops the list and sold for a whopping N52 Million.
