Brace Yourselves: ‘Comic Connect Africa’ Is Coming Via Comic Republic

Something is brewing in the Comic Republic studios in Lekki and they’re calling it ‘Comic Connect Africa’. What’s it all about?

Well, according to the info posted on CR’s social media:

For the first time ever, we are bringing Comic Books, Gaming, Theatre, Fashion Runways, Cosplay, Music and Poetry into one event – Comic Connect Africa! Comic Connect Africa is an initiative of Comic Republic in partnership with NaijaGameEvo.

Students from various secondary schools and universities will take an intensive session on comic illustrations. Comic Book studios across Africa will display their products to thousands in attendance. Awards will be given to various comic production companies in Africa, there will be a cosplay costume competition and for the first time, fashion meets comic books in a runway styled by the iconic Jane Michael. Students will get an opportunity to win a brand new laptop in our School Art Competition and take part in the first Comic Book listening party in Africa. Comic Connect Africa will like to invite you specially to this event which holds on December 10th and 11th 2016. Save the date! More details soon. #ComicConnect @comicconnect

If your memory serves you right, you’d remember we reported on Comic Republic, arguably the most influential comic company in Nigeria, pulling out of the Lagos Comicon, literally the biggest gathering of comic lovers in Nigeria at the last minute in September. There were accusations and counter-accusations about awards that weren’t deserved, which eventually culminated in their absence at the Lagos Comicon 2016.

So, it isn’t exactly rocket science that a few months after that ‘split’, Comic Republic is floating its own two-day comicon type event, albeit with some rather interesting add-ons. Fashion runways? Music and Poetry? Interestingly, there isn’t any mention of ‘Awards’ at this event in the post by CR. Which would be awkward because, if there are going to be awards given at this event, would Comic Republic and its titles be eligible as they’re the organizers?

The plot thickens…

Watch this space.
