Is There Too Much ‘Spiritism’ In Nigerian Comics? – EXO Creator Roy Okupe Responds

As Nigerian comics are beginning to gain popularity by the day, comic writers and creators try to tell their stories through a Nigerian eye, basically making the stories as local as possible, something everybody in the country can relate with. However, questions are been raised about some of the stories being told by these comic writers and creators, questions like why are there so many Orisha stories in our comic books? Don’t we have any other stories to tell?

Roy Okupe, the creator of the comic E.X.O – ‘The Legend of Wale Williams’, sheds  light on this issue at the recently held Lagos COMICON

“It always boils down to choice, it’s not  only Orishas you have when it comes to comics (in Nigeria), there are other titles… However, Orisha is part of our culture.”
